Zen practice Print

There are three fundamental structures in Zen:

  • Consciously gathering one’s self, using a focus, breathing or Koan Mu.

  • Pure alertness known as Shikantaza, in which we register everything we become aware off, possibly putting a name to it, but then immediately discard it, once again attaining a state of pure alertness.

  • Mindful walking and mindful working.

The practice periods are intended to lead us to a state of alertness not tied to anything, an alertness that allows us to register things with greater awareness.

At the end all pores of the body, the senses and the psyche are like one big ear, listening. Nothing that we become conscious of is judged or assessed.
